own.audio is built in the open order that makes sense for one person building carefully: the service and one complete app first, then the phones, then everything else. This page is the plan — with honest marks for what's done, what's underway, and what's still ahead. It gets updated as work lands.

Open by design

For music, own.audio speaks OpenSubsonic — and will keep speaking it. That means any OpenSubsonic-compatible player app can connect to your library, today and after launch. If you prefer a different player over ours, that will always be your choice, not ours.

For audiobooks, no comparable open standard exists yet. We're watching that space closely — the Audiobookshelf API is the closest candidate — and if a real standard emerges, we intend to support it for the same reason: your library should never depend on our apps to stay yours.

About these dates

own.audio moves in short, two-month phases — momentum is part of the plan. The dates above are the targets we work toward, not signed contracts: if a phase needs a few extra weeks to be right, it gets them, and this page moves with it. What won't move is the order, and the rule that nothing ships before it's ready to be lived with.
