Delete your account

Last updated: August 27, 2026

You can delete your own.audio account at any time, and you don't need to ask us to do it. This page explains how, what gets removed, and who to contact if your family runs its own server.

First: which server are you on?

own.audio can be used two ways, and it changes who holds your data.

If you're not sure which you're on, open the app and look at the server address shown on the sign-in screen.

Deleting from inside the app

This is the quickest route and it works on every server, hosted or not. Open Settings, choose Delete account, and confirm by typing DELETE. The account and its contents are removed immediately. There's no waiting period and no undo.

Asking us instead

If you can't reach the app — you've lost the device, or you never finished setting it up — email [email protected] from the address you signed up with, and ask us to delete your account. We'll confirm once it's done. This only covers accounts on our hosted service; we can't act on a server we don't run.

If you only ever joined the pre-launch waitlist and never created an account, the same address works — say so and we'll remove your waitlist entry.

What gets deleted

What may remain, and why

Two things can outlive the deletion, and neither identifies you afterwards:

Backups are the usual exception to "immediately": deleted data can persist in encrypted backups for a short period before those rotate out.
